Implants are now the standard for replacing missing teeth. An implant is basically a screw that is placed in the jaw where the missing tooth or teeth are, and serves as a root. 

After healing, a crown can simply be put on top. Implants can also support bridges, dentures, and hybrids of the two.
They are a great alternative to natural teeth.
